Our performance of Tartuffe!

Posted by: Ashleigh on: May 18, 2008

On Thursday, 8th of May, we did our final performance of Tartuffe. We were all a bit nervous, because we didn’t get much rehearsal time, and were a bit unsure of our lines, but once we got out on the stage it felt okay!

It took us around an hour to get ready for a performance (a 15 minute scene, which was Act Two from Tartuffe by Molière), most of the time was spent on applying our makeup. It was quite rewarding to use the skills we had learnt from our makeup unit which we had done earlier on in the term. Our makeup looked good from a distance, and created the effect we wanted to create. I was in charge of set design and props, and it was quite challenging considering we had a very limited budget and limited resources. The props I used were reflections of the family in the play, this will be explained further in my set design notes.

I thought our performance went quite well, considering it was our first performance as a group. I thought we all applied what we learnt during the unit to our final performance, and it was a reflection of everything we had learnt. This performance made me realise everything I had learnt during the unit, which mostly involved things to do with set design, such as how props can be a reflection of certain character’s personalities, and how important a detailed set design map is!

Our final task of our Molière unit is our TPPP tomorrow, and I have a much better feeling about this one, compared to the last one. I will probably upload the TPPP notes after tomorrow.
